According to Richard Heinberg –one of the world’s foremost oil depletion educators- the era of cheap oil is already over as explained in his book: The Party’s Over: Oil, War and the Fate of Industrial Societies. From the book reviews I read, it seems that R. Heinberg predicted that the oil peak has been already reached and the world should start planning for a post hydro-carbons energy era from now.He furthermore poses another question; “What Happens When Oil Runs Out?”, which sounds very dramatic, but true. Our present civilization is depending on oil in a greater degree and we cannot imagine any of its facets functioning in the absence of oil as a primary mover. Imaging for example a food industry which starts from the producing farmer to the processing plant to the marketing channels in absence of oil and in consequence that the working machines which are involved in these operations are setting idle. “Our global food system faces a crisis of unprecedented scope,” he argues. Quote; “This crisis, which threatens to imperil the lives of hundreds of millions and possibly billions of human beings, consists of four simultaneously colliding dilemmas, all arising from our relatively recent pattern of dependence on depleting fossil fuels.” Unquote…Furthermore, farmers in Britain and the States are growing more crops for bio fuels but as the crops from which bio fuels are made grow better in tropical countries and thus these rather poor countries will face more food shortages and we may see millions of people starving in order to supply the richer countries with fuel necessary to drive their cars.In his latest book ” Peak Everything: Waking Up to the Century of Declines “ he states that “During the past few years the phrase Peak Oil has entered the global lexicon. It refers to the moment in time when the world will achieve its maximum possible rate of oil extraction; from then on, for reasons having mostly to do with geology, the amount of petroleum available to society on a daily or yearly basis will begin to dwindle. Most informed analysts agree that this will happen during the next two or three decades; an increasing number believe that it is happening now - that conventional oil production peaked in 2005–2006 and that the flow to market of all hydrocarbon liquids taken together will start to diminish around 2010.” We’re now in 2008. The alternative, experts say, is not in bio fuels, but it’s all around us and a plenty, it’s in Water, Wind and Sun Power.

قرر السلطان أن يتولى بركات بن موسى نظارة الحسبة الشريفة للقاهرةو الوجه القبلي ، حيث سيكون مسئولا أمام السلطان عن أحوال السكان المدنية و الدينية – كمراقبة الأسعار و النظر في المكاييل و الموازين ، و معرفة ما يتردد على أفواه الناس ، و التصدي للأمر بالمعروف و النهى عن المنكر - ، كما أنعم السلطان عليه بلقب الزينى يقرن باسمه بقية عمره . و لكن الزينى ذهب للسلطان متضرعا و باكيا راجيا إعفاءه من هذه المسؤولية الجسيمة فهو عبد فقير لا يطيق الوصاية على إنسان يريد انقضاء عمره في أمن و سلام ، و لن يستطيع أن ينام ليله لو كان هناك مسلم مظلوم في مكان ما سيحاسب عنه يوم القيامة و هو لا يعلم به .و حار كبير البصاصين الشهاب زكريا بن راضى في الأمر فالمعلومات المتوفرة لديه من جهازه الرهيب تقول بأن بركات دفع ثلاثة ألاف دينار إلى الأمير قاني كي يشترى بها هذا المنصب ، و زادت حيرته عندما لم يجد أية معلومات في أرشيفه عن هذا الرجل بينما وظيفته ككبير للبصاصين أن لا يفوته أي أمر من أمور مصر و أن يعرف كل شي عن أي شخص ، و لكن كل ما وجده في الصفحة المخصصة لبركات هذا فقط ” بركات بن موسى ، له مقدرة الاطلاع على النجوم ، أمه اسمها عنقا” .سمع الناس برفض بركات للمنصب و تعجبوا، ثم بدأ تعلقهم به ، و انتشر لغط عظيم بين الحارات و الأزقة و أروقة الأزهر ، بين مشايخ الحرف و الأعيان و أصحاب الحرف ، و تحركت جماهير الناس – كأن يد خفية تنسق تحركها – و طلبت من شيوخ الأزهر الضغط على بركات بن موسى بقبول هدا المنصب و أنهم لايرضون عنه بديلا ، و عندما توجه بركات إلى السلطان مرة أخره متذللا و قابلا تولى مسؤولية الحسبة الشريفة إرضاء لجماهير الشعب ، تنفس الناس الصعداء و أملوا بداية عهد مجيد كله عدل و رخاء ، و أصبح كبير البصاصين الشهاب زكريا حسب الأصول نائبا له .بدأ الزينى بركات عمله بإصدار القوانين لتنظيم أمور الناس و إنصاف المظلومين و إحقاق الحق و إلغاء الاحتكار و الحد من ظلم رجال الأمراء المماليك للعامة من الناس و فتح بيته لتلقى المظالم من الناس ، و زاده السلطان قانصوة الغوري تشريفا بتعيينه واليا للقاهرة بالإضافة منصب الحسبة الشريفة للقاهرة و الوجهين القبلي و البحري . أهتم الزينى من جهته بإنشاء جيش من البصاصين يتبع له مباشرة و أعطى توجيهاته لكبير البصاصين بأن يبدأ في فتح ملف لكل شخص في السلطنة منذ ولادته و أن يعطى رقما خاصا و أن يعرف عنه كل شي من ميلاده إلى ساعة وفاته ، و هذا يشمل معرفة ميوله و أهواءه و مكامن الخطر فيه و نقاط ضعفه ، فالأوقات صعبة و الأعداء – أي بني عثمان - يتربصون بمصر و هم ينتظرون الوقت الملائم للانقضاض عليها . وهاهو كبير البصاصين أخيرا يقتنع برئيسه الزينى بركات و يجد فيه قائدا ملهما قل نظيره رغم جهله عن تاريخه السابق و من أين جاء .
يحدث هذا في مصر – أم الدنيا – في وقت كان التاريخ يكتب فيه صفحات جديدة من تاريخ المشرق ، حيث كانت دولة المماليك في أفول و دولة بني عثمان في شروق نجم مجدها . و يقودنا الأديب المبدع جمال الغيطانى في روايته عن الزينى بركات في تداخل عجيب بين الأزمنة ، فتشعر عندما تقرا كأنك في رحلة عبر الزمان ، و كأنه يحدثنا بإحداث الحاضر بلغة الماضي ، و تقول في نفسك – نعم - لعل هناك أزمنة أكثر رداءة من هذا الزمن العربي الردى الذي نعيش و الذي نسمى فيه صورة طفلة بريئة في السابعة من عمرها تبيع – السمسمية – على رصيف شارع الثورة بدمشق بينما تحاول أن تؤدى فروضها المدرسية ، بعنوان العلم و العمل ، بدلا من القهر و الظلم .
According to the Tunis-based Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization, known by its acronym ALECSO, three-quarters of the 100 million people unable to read or write in the 21 Arab countries are aged between 15 and 45 years old and Equally alarming, some 46.5 percent of women in the region are illiterate. Furthermore, nearly one in three people in the Arab world is illiterate.

Education in Libya has changed a great deal in the second half of last century. However, right now there is a lot to be said about its status, and while it has its own special problems, I find Khadijateri’s post of December 22, 2006 very significant in pointing out the cause and the effect of its present dilemma.

تنطلق صباح يوم غذ الاثنين فعاليات المهرجان التأبيني للشاعر الراحل حسن السوسى بدار الكتب الوطنية في بنغازي . و بهذه المناسبة سيتم في الدار افتتاح قاعة الندوات و المحاضرات الجديدة ، قاعة الكاتب الراحل الصادق النيهوم ، و أيضا رواق الشاعر حسن السوسى . و ستلقى في هذا المهرجان عديد الأوراق البحثية حول الشاعر ، كما سيقام على هامش المهرجان معرض صور لمقتنيات الشاعر الراحل . حسن السوسى من مواليد الكفرة سنة 1924 ، و قد هاجرت عائلته إلى مرسى مطروح في سنة 1928 قبل احتلال الكفرة من قبل المستعمر الايطالي . درس المرحوم بمصر حتى نال الشهادة الأهلية من الأزهر سنة 1944 ثم عمل في حقل التدريس في ليبيا حتى أحيل للتقاعد سنة 1988 ، و توفى –رحمه الله – يوم 22 / 11 / 2007 . نشرت قصائده في عديد المطبوعات داخل ليبيا و خارجها ، و صدر له عدة دواويين ، و كان يطلق علية في ليبيا شاعر الوطن و شاعر الغزل الخجول ، و وصف هو الشعربأنه فسحة يرى منها الحياة كما يحب. قال عنه محمد المز وغى ”كنت ليبيا بكل ما فيها من نخل ، و صحراء ، و شواطئ ، و هموم ، و أفراح ، و حب ، و مناسبات ، و ما هى ليبيا لو لم تكن شعر السوسى و كتابات المصراتى و تاريخ بازامه و روايات الكوني إلى أخر قائمة الإبداع الذي سطرته اكف المبدعين . “ و قال المرحوم عن ليبيا في قصيدة بنفس الاسم
زعمو أنني نسيت هواها *** و أذاعو أنني هويت سواها
كذب المرجفون فيما ادعوه *** و رووا باطلا و قالو سفاها
هي نفسي فكيف أنكر نفسي *** و هي روحي، و أحلامها ، ومناها
قد ترشفت حسنها بضميري *** و تعشقت مجدها ،و علاها
